Description
Located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia Aquarium is home to around 120,000 sea animals living in over 10 million gallons of water, making it one of the largest aquariums in the world. Around 700 species, such as African Penguins, American Alligators and Beluga Whales are part of the population. A special highlight at the aquarium are the Whale Sharks, since they cannot be visited at any other institution on the whole American continent.
Georgia Aquarium opened in 2005 and has attracted around 2.4 million visitors annually since then. However, the aquarium also cooperates with universities and other initiatives to engage in the conservation of endangered species. The facility's so far largest expansion plans, announced in 2018, are expected to be completed by 2020.
How to get there
Located in central Atlanta, across from Centennial Olympic Park.
Georgia Aquarium is accessible by MARTA (public transport) as well as by car. 1,600 parking spaces are available to visitors, parking passes can also be bought online in advance.
