Glacier Skywalk Banff

Glacier Skywalk, a unique observation platform, is located between Jasper and Banff National Park amidst the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Being accessible for wheelchairs, walker and strollers, the walkway is suitable for everyone, with only one exception: those who are afraid of heights.

The observation platform at the end of the walkway is the undisputed highlight of your visit. At an elevation of 280 metres you are standing on a glass floor, which allows for a unique panoramic view.

Before making it there, however, your journey begins at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre. From there, visitors take a shuttle bus through the breathtaking landscape to the Discovery Trail. This walkway extends along the impressive Sunwapta Valley, a landscape full of traces of thousands of years of geological history. Apart from ancient fossils at the bottom of the valley, wildlife can often be spotted in the distance as well. Looking up towards the mountains and glaciers, visitors are presented with a particularly stunning view.

Along the way, interactive information stations and audio guides tell a story that invites visitors to experience the Rocky Mountains in a special way. In addition, guided tours are offered free of additional charge, on  a first-come, first-served basis.

The Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre is located on the scenic Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 N), approximately 1 hour south of Jasper and 2.5 hours north of Banff. The easiest way to get there is therefore by car (all cars must park at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre). For those with no access to a car, there are sightseeing tours which include a visit to the Glacier Skywalk, starting from Calgary, Banff, or Jasper. Furthermore, pick-up and drop-off services are offered at most major hotels in downtown Calgary and Banff.
