On the barrier-free treetop path you can explore the area of the former lung sanatoriums near Beelitz and the heritage-protected buildings from above.

The nature, adventure and history trail lets you see the unique architecture and historic gardens from the beginning of the 20th century from a completely new perspective. The trail begins at the 40-metre high exit tower (with lift) in the southern part of the grounds. From there, you walk between pines and deciduous trees at airy heights through the grounds of the former lung sanatorium.

The treetop path and the surrounding forest-park area with the World War II ruins of the "Alpenhaus" are open all year round and offer unique views of the enchanted sanatorium landscape and the region between Berlin and the Fläming.

Historical Information

The treetop path is a special experience at night.
© Baum&Zeit / Baumkronenpfad Beelitz-Heilstätten The treetop path is a special experience at night.

More than 100 years ago, the Beelitz sanatoriums with large forest and park areas were built where the treetop path is today. The clinic was built here at that time to enable the increasing number of tuberculosis patients to be treated in the fresh air. For this purpose, not only deciduous trees and flowering shrubs were planted, but also exotic conifers. Today, especially in spring and autumn, you can admire the brilliant colours of the 65 different species of trees and shrubs from the treetop path.

A spectacular badger forest is growing on the roof of the so-called "Alpenhaus", which was destroyed in the final battles of the Second World War. You can see this or the inside of various buildings on the grounds during different seasonal guided tours.
