The German mining museum in Bochum is the biggest of its kind in the world. Numerous exhibitions tell you about iron ore and coal mining as well as machineries and facilities used for mining. The museum even displays a model of Tobias, a pit pony that used to work there until 1966. The expositions are shown on three different levels.

A ride on the headframe of the former pit Germania is a special highlight. In addition, there is an observation deck located at 62m (203ft), which provides you with a great view over the city of Bochum.

How to get there

From the central train station in Bochum, take the subway U35 towards Herne. The stop is "Deutsches Bergbau-Museum".
