Maya mare Halle (Saale)

Welcome to Mexico! You’d be forgiven for thinking that you’ve jetted halfway around the globe on entering Maya Mare. In reality, this water park is located in the much more temperate climate of Halle an der Saale. Not that you’d know it from the authentically Mayan ornaments, reliefs and columns surrounding the facilities here. Get ready for a truly unique water park experience with a distinctive Mexican twist!

Explore the world of the Mayans

In total, Maya boasts a whopping 1,331 m² of pool space. On entering the swimming hall, the first pool you encounter is the “Erlebnisbecken” adventure pool. Allow yourself to be gently carried away in the current here, or untangle those knotted muscles on the massage jets and bubble areas. The “Lazy River” channel also flows into this pool – a 130-metre waterway which runs throughout the indoor pool hall, whisking swimmers away on a journey through the fascinating world of Mexico’s indigenous peoples. The wave pool is designed to resemble a Mexican temple, and it is the largest pool at Maya Mare, clocking in at a sizeable 385 m². In addition to fun in the waves, this pool features a waterfall in the Lapna ruins as well as several fun geysers and plumes. But if that all sounds like too much action, you can luckily head to the nearby whirlpools to unwind.

Fun for young and old alike

This Mexican-themed waterpark also has plenty in store for families. The new “Tulumaya” area opened its doors on 1 October 2016, and is specifically geared towards children of all ages. New slides, suspended tunnel systems, water plumes and figures with hidden interactive features turn a few hours in the pool into a memorable adventure. The waterslide tower is even more action-packed. The undoubted highlight here is the 122-metre “Langnese Laser Express”, a white-knuckle waterslide featuring unique lighting effects on the way down. The “Speedy Rutsche” slide is all about speed, as the name suggests, while the “Doppelbob” and “Reifenrutsche” slides allow you to hop on a ring and tackle the slides with a friend.

Maya Mare also has an outdoor pool which is open all year round and features a waterfall and luxurious bubble loungers. In summer, you can lay back and enjoy views of the Elsteraue Nature Reserve or partake in a little table tennis or beach volleyball here. Meanwhile, youngsters can let off some steam in the water play area or on the climbing frame.

The sauna area features more than a little Central American flair. This space is 2,500 m² in size and is designed to resemble a colonial-era Mexican village. There is a whole host of sauna options available here, from a salt cave with an ambient temperature of just 30°C to the sweltering 100°C Keloblockhaus log cabin-style sauna. The Mayabad boasts a pleasant atmosphere with 100 percent humidity and a 46°C ambient temperature, while the Caldarium (50°C) gently warms the body. Surrounded by birdsong, the rustling of leaves and alternating coloured lights, a trip to the Sanarium (60°C / 55 % humidity) feels like a trip into the great outdoors. Alternatively, you can surround yourself with the pleasant aroma of medicinal herbs in the 60°C herbal sauna. The Aztec sauna (80°C) is designed like a Mayan temple, while Villa Mexico offers a variety of different infusions.

The relaxation room is an oasis of calm, where you can listen to the sound of the fountain as you relax in a canopy bed, recliner or hanging chair. If you’re feeling peckish, look no further than the Cancunbar for an array of tasty Mexican specialities.

Maya Mare’s wellness oasis also offers numerous different treatments for people looking to properly pamper their body. This area has something for both conventional tastes – classical back, foot reflex and full body massages – as well as unusual applications, like massages with hot stones, chocolate or sesame oil, or a bath with sea salt, milk or roses. The service range is completed by cosmetics treatments like pedicures, peeling and eyelash colouring. By car

Maya Mare is located to the south of Halle (Saale) via the B91. The latter is accessible via the A38, exiting at the Leuna exit. Alternatively, take the A14 to the Halle / Peißen exit and then follow the B6 into the city centre before merging onto the B91 by the main station. You can reach the waterpark by turning onto Georgi-Dimitroff-Straße shortly before you reach Elsteraue Nature Reserve.

Public transport

From the centre of Halle (Saale), take Straßenbahn line 1 or 2 and get off at the Beesen terminus.
