At 1,493m/4,998ft above sea level, Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Black Forest. The only German mountain to be higher is the Zugspitze. A popular destination in summer and winter alike, the mountain boasts a great view all the way to the Vosges mountains and the Swiss Alps.

In the 1950s, the broadcasting station Südwestrundfunk built a tower on its top. It has belonged to the municipality of Feldberg since 2003. Since this time it has been an observation tower, sometimes you can even see the Mont-Blanc-massif. Take the elevator to the 11th floor to the platform. This is also the highest place in Baden-Württemberg to get married!

How to get there

By car

You can get to Feldberg via motorway A5 Frankfurt-Basel. Exit at Freiburg Stadtmitte and follow B31 towards Titisee-Neustadt. Now follow the signs pointing to Feldberg. Turn right before the town entry.

Alternatively you can take A81 Stuttgart - Singen. Exit at Donaueschingen and follow B31 Freiburg/Titisee-Neustadt. Follow the signs to Feldberg and turn right before entering the town.

Public transportation

Trains go from Freiburg to Feldberg every hour. If you want to go to the peak, get off one stop sooner (Bahnhof Bärental) and change to bus 7300.

You can either take the Feldbergbahn or walk to the tower (40 minutes).
