Hallgrímskirkja is the most characteristic landmark of the Icelandic capital Reykjavík. The Lutheran parish church is the tallest in the country, and its second highest building. Besides its unique architecture, the church also features a giant pipe organ, and a statue of Leifur Eriksson, the first European to find America, approximately 500 years before Christopher Columbus did.

How to get there

Hallgrímskirkja is located on Eiríksgata in Reykjavík. The easiest way to get there is to follow Route 49 (Hringbraut) into the city, then turn onto Njarðargata in front of University of Iceland Park. After 500 metres, turn right onto Eiríksgata to get to the church. As it is located on a hill, and visible from almost anywhere in the city, Hallgrímskirkja is easy to find.
