On the road through the Val d'Hérens in Valais, an exceptional natural monument awaits you: the pyramids of Euseigne. The cones of earth, on the top of which there are large boulders, rise between 10 and 15 meters in height. Created around 80,000 to 10,000 years ago, the earth pyramids of Euseigne are now among the most important geological sights in the Alps and are therefore protected by law.

The pyramids were created at the end of the Würmian period. After the retreat of the ice, large heaps of debris remained, which were freed from rain and meltwater over the years. The large boulders on the tops protect the softer moraine material of the pyramids from erosion.

On the pyramid trail you can observe the fascinating earth formations from up close. You will need 20 to 25 minutes for the walk.

Euseigne is located around 170 kilometres south of Bern in a side valley of the Rhône. From Berne you drive via Fribourg to Montreux on Lake Geneva and then on the A9 to Sion. Here you take the exit Route d'Hérens and drive via Vex to Euseigne. The main road of the valley goes right through the pyramids.
